The future smart ecological island

To develop tourism potential of Cat Ba in a more sustainable and effective way, Hai Phong is striving to build Cat Ba into a world class green tourist destination, creating an important point and motivation in developing tourism in this port land.

In September 2016, the survey team included architectural landscape planning experts from WATG – the world’s leading design consultant with more than 6 decades of experience in 160 countries across continents presented at this beautiful island. Together with the people who are really devoted to the development of tourism in the Pearl Island, they have been working on a strategic plan that will bring a new breakthrough to the future of Cat Ba Island.

The plan is full of enthusiasm along with a potential development with the hope that Cat Ba island in the future will escape the scattered, spontaneous situation in tourism to become a paradise of high-end, luxury and modern resort area in the world. Leaders and people of Hai Phong hope that the project will be successfully implemented to not only bring great benefits to the country but also help the people here to have a civilized and progressive life.

Mr. Robert Day, Vice President of WATG, said that the WATG master plan clearly defines four development areas, including strictly protected area – National forest reserve; Buffer zone – ecological restoration area; protected water area; developable area. He confirmed that the project would ensure to limit maximum impact on the forests and the sea.

According to the project “Developing tourism in Hai Phong period 2017-2020, orientation to 2030”, Hai Phong will implement the planning and investment of ecotourism resorts, recreational and entertainment sites with various types of functional areas, and modern resorts are linked, synchronously exploited in Cat Ba island such as Aquarium, 6 star luxury hotels, golf course system and amusement parks, entertainment spots…

Hai Phong has developed the regulation on traffic management on the island with the aim of not using the means of transport with internal combustion engines, only using cable cars and electric vehicles as the main means of transport on the island to pick up guests.

In particular, the People’s Committee of Hai Phong also agreed with investors to make free use of means of transport with people living on the island.

Cat Ba tourism also promises to attract more tourists when the end of 2017 Tan Vu-Lach Huyen bridge is put into use, connecting directly to the highway Hanoi – Hai Phong, Highway 5, Highway 18, the Noi Bai – Halong Highway forming a transport network linking Hanoi – Hai Phong – Halong. Travelers can easily reach Cat Ba by road alongside high-speed boats and wooden boats.
